    Kicking off SPAM NEW MEDIA FESTIVAL with a new sound installation.

    Using field recordings taken from within Freeway Park, CHARI creates a new soundscape for the park that is reflective and in conversation with its architectural and natural dichotomies. This piece is a

    sonic experiment that interrogates the dynamics of building a world on top of a

    pre-existing one, and asks what remains and is revealed in the shifting

    transmutation.

    How can we make AI less biased? Art+Technology alumni James Coupe invites artist Chari Glogovac-Smith to share more about their work in bringing diversity to AI. Host Gemma Cairney is intrigued by how Chari uses grassroots techniques to create more inclusive digital maps. Both artists reflect on the impact of their personal philosophies on their artwork.

  • 8 EMMY NOMINATIONS FOR BLACK IRIS PROJECT

    Chari received NY Emmy nomination for composition “Identity” from WILD , a ballet by Black Iris Project.

    Fall 2022

    Identity is up for an Emmy nomination for best composition and arrangement. Black Iris Project received 8 Emmy Nominations in total. Congrats to Jeremy McQueen and all collaborators on this amazing production.

    Chari spent time on the road with the musical theater and dance production Do the Hustle, as the show’s composer, sound designer, and one of the performing cast members. It was a whirlwind inaugural tour, with an opening performance at Jacob’s Pillow, a residency courtesy of Works and Process at The Chautauqua Institution, and a high-energy finishing performance at the prestigious Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

    “MISS ALMA THOMAS” HAS SCREENED AT OVER 40 FILM FESTIVALS WORLDWIDE!

    Alma W. Thomas broke color barriers on and off the canvas, yet did not receive national attention until she was 80.

    “Miss Alma Thomas” is the first documentary film that explores Thomas’ incredible life through the lens of curators, art specialists, scholars, and her family, and features award-winning actress Alfre Woodard as the voice of Alma Thomas. Released in conjunction with a major four-city museum retrospective, thousands will have the opportunity to learn of her life, work, and continuing influence.
